University Life Opportunities and Events (All events in ET)
- Desserts with Strangers Sign-up. Join the University Life Events Council on Thursday, November 11 from 7:00-8:00 PM for a journey around the world via desserts! If you’ve been looking to cure your sweet tooth and meet some new friends, enter for a spot at the event by Wednesday, November 3 at 12:00 PM ET as capacity is limited.
- A Workshop and Conversation on Bias: Recognizing the Role We All Play. Join us for this interactive workshop on identities and biases: how they manifest in society and how we can all contribute to a culture of inclusion & belonging at Columbia. Earn credit for the Inclusion & Belonging component of the Community Citizenship Initiative (CCI), required for all newly enrolled students. Wednesday, November 3, 12:00-1:30 PM. Register here.
- Campus Conversations. Make friends, have real conversations and earn credit for the Inclusion & Belonging component of the Community Citizenship Initiative (CCI), required for all newly enrolled students. - Graduate Initiative Hangout: Paint Night Edition. Join graduate students from across the University for an evening of painting and casual conversation. No experience necessary! This event will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so please register to indicate your interest by Friday, November 5. Wednesday, November 10, 5:30-7:30 PM.
- Virtual Cardio Kickboxing Class. Join us as we team up with Columbia Physical Education and Recreation to host an online kickboxing class. No equipment or experience required. Thursday, November 11, 1:30 PM. Register here.
- Day of Service. Interested in volunteering to serve the communities around Columbia’s campuses? Sign up for this Day of Service, hosted by the University Life Events Council, and choose one of four volunteer opportunities. Saturday, November 13, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Sign up here.
- Low Lounge Performer Sign-up. The University Life Events Council is hosting the annual Low Lounge celebration on Tuesday, December 14. Celebrate the end of the semester, as the Low Library Rotunda is transformed into the ultimate study break with snacks, games, student performances, raffles and more! Interested in performing at this event? Be sure to sign up before Sunday, November 14.
- Become a University Life Ambassador. Passionate about building community at Columbia? University Life Ambassadors contribute ideas, engage with student leaders, and work with University Life staff to promote events and more. Interested? Apply by Sunday, November 14.
- Yoga Class. Join Religious Life for a free one-hour yoga class every Wednesday at 7:00 PM throughout Fall semester. Bring your own mat and arrive 10 minutes early to reserve your spot, as there is a 20-person maximum. See upcoming classes here.

- Operational Risk & Resilience: Best Practices in View of the Pandemic. Hosted by SPS’ Enterprise Risk Management program, this discussion will cover how banks can integrate new sound practices into their operational risk management plans, now and in the future. - Winona LaDuke: Food Security In A Time Of Climate Change. Join SPS for a conversation with Winona LaDuke, Executive Director of Honor the Earth and an internationally renowned activist. LaDuke will discuss her agricultural endeavors, her organization’s activism and issues surrounding food security during climate change. Thursday, November 4, 12:00-1:15 PM. Register here.
- Heritability and the Ancestral Present: Still & Moving Images. The Institute for the Study of Sexuality and Gender and the Department of Anthropology are hosting a conversation between prominent scholar of comics, graphic novels and visual studies, Hillary Chute, and author Elizabeth A. Povinelli on her new graphic memoir, “The Inheritance”. Thursday, November 4, 4:00 PM. Register here.
- Addressing Implicit Bias as Standard of Care: A Legal & Ethical Imperative. Join the Masters of Bioethics Program as they discuss the ways the legal system can be used as a tool for reframing the scope of professional ethical obligations in healthcare, which can improve the quality of care in marginalized communities. - Social Enterprise Conference, Capital for Good. Join the Tamer Center for Social Enterprise for the 20th Annual Social Enterprise Conference Keynote Kickoff featuring industry leaders, investors, philanthropists, professionals, faculty, students, and alumni. - Nobel Ignitors Fellowship Essay Challenge. The Ignitor Fellowship Program is a new and exciting extracurricular program available to all students who are interested in making the change they want to see in the world. Interested in applying?
