The Graduate Initiative

The Graduate Initiative for Inclusion and Engagement is part of Columbia’s commitment to diversity and the success of all graduate and professional school students.

Meet and collaborate with graduate students from all Columbia schools, and participate in innovative programs and supportive spaces.

Learn, Engage and Connect.

Columbia Graduate Welcome is a one-day event developed for new and continuing graduate and professional school students of color and allies from across all graduate fields. All students are welcome.

Participants have the opportunity to form connections and establish community with amid faculty and professionals with shared experiences as diverse scholars. The event's keynote and various workshops focus on providing participants with the helpful tools and insights to navigate a successful transition and progression in their graduate studies.

Co-Sponsors include:

Diversity, Dialogue and Dinner Series

The Dialogue and Dinner series is an opportunity for students and faculty to have meaningful conversations on critical student life issues, such as navigating the University as a first-generation student or raising awareness about the LGBTQ+ community.

Success Workshops

These workshops support graduate students’ transition to the Columbia community. If you’re curious how to approach a conversation with a faculty member or wondering how to build a network among your fellow students, this is a series for you!

Grad Hangouts

Make connections across schools through informal social gatherings. Events are held at both the Morningside and CUIMC campuses.

Interschool Governing Board and Student Organization Advising

The Office of University Life advises the Interschool Governing Board and student organizations recognized by the board.  We also provide resources and training for graduate student organizations, including mini grants, best practices for event planning, and leadership development workshops. For more information, contact Director of Student Engagement Zach Harrell, zh2342@columbia.edu.
