Pay Continuation for Student Employees

March 13, 2020

To all student casual employees, including work-study students:

We write to share important information about your work and compensation as campus life evolves in response to COVID-19.  We know many of you have questions and concerns regarding your ability to work on campus, including those of you who are funded by federal work-study. We greatly appreciate your patience and flexibility as we worked through these details in this complicated time.

We are glad to let you know that the University confirms our commitment to compensate you at your existing pay rate, through May 15th. University departments and units have been given guidance to compensate you based on the hours that represent your regular schedule.  For students on work-study, this compensation will be up to the amount of your work-study award.

While events continue to evolve that may affect your ability to perform duties on-site, each department and unit is evaluating options for you to work remotely and will update you individually.  This may take some time as departmental work adapts to our current circumstances, but please do not hesitate to reach out to your supervisor with questions.

If you have not already done so, we strongly encourage you to enroll in direct deposit to ensure ease of access to your paycheck.  If you do not do this, your paycheck will be held for pick-up on campus as it is now. This will delay your receipt and introduce challenges for us to get this paycheck to you, particularly as certain staff may also be working off campus.  Please assist us in eliminating this challenge.

Again, please contact your supervisor directly if you have any questions about this announcement or your work going forward.

Thank you for your patience and for your many contributions to Columbia.
