Dear Students,

Registering to vote and expressing your views are fundamental acts of civic engagement. Your participation helps ensure that elected officials are responsive to the concerns of those who live and work in the communities they represent.

Get a jump-start on learning more about the November 8th U.S. general election. All students are invited to visit CU Engage and ColumbiaVotes for information on upcoming events and other ways to get involved.

If you’re eligible to vote, we urge you to register now, if you haven’t already. Here is information on how to get started, including resources for voting by absentee ballot.

For New York residents: Not registered yet? Tomorrow, October 14th is the deadline – register NOW online or by mail. To request an absentee ballot, use New York’s online portal. Columbia University is proud to serve as an Early Voting and Election Day polling site at the Morningside, Manhattanville, and CUIMC campuses. For more information on Early Voting times and locations in New York City, visit vote.nyc. For additional information on voting in New York City check Who’s On the Ballot, a project of Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs.

For residents of other states: To register or apply for an absentee ballot, visit Turbo Vote. You can also find information about voting and contests in all 50 states at Project Vote Smart and at vote.columbia.edu

Not sure if you’re registered? Visit Turbo Vote to check on your registration status.

Other questions? Write to Audrey Litvak in Government and Community Affairs at [email protected].

We know that voter turnout increases when people urge each other to vote and hope that you  will do your part to increase turnout and ensure that your voices are heard on this year’s Election Day: Tuesday, November 8th.

Sincerely,
