Study breaks and Resources for You
Dear Students,
I am reaching out to share resources to help you navigate the end of the semester. Setting aside just 5-10 minutes a day to focus on your breathing or do a short meditation can make a positive impact, especially during challenging and busy times. Below, I’m including some additional ideas and resources that I hope will help you during this time and always.
I am thinking of you and wishing you the best as we conclude the fall semester.
Study Tips and University Resources
- Schedule breaks that feel meaningful to you. Go on a walk, eat lunch with a friend, meet a new dog (Morningside/Manhattanville pet therapy / CUIMC pet therapy), or pretend it’s summer at Low Lounge study break this Sunday, December 10 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
- Plan your day. There are 1440 minutes in a day. This resource from Columbia Health helps you plan yours.
- Small changes to your routine can help bring you energy and fight burnout. Here are a few different study spots to try!
- You may also want to try setting the tone with relaxing sounds for sleep and studying
- Feeling a “mental block” on tests or assignments? Go Ask Alice! from Columbia Health has some tips for refocusing and managing anxiety.
- Remember: you’re not alone. Asking for help from peers, faculty, and staff can reduce stress.
- Form or join a study group
- Attend office hours
- Visit Columbia’s Writing Center
- Ask a Librarian or attend a workshop to learn more about research and citations
