University Life Welcomes You to the Spring Term
Dear Students,
I write to welcome you to the Spring 2022 term, with a special welcome to our new students this semester. No matter how long you’ve been part of Columbia’s community, or where in the world you may be reading this message, I hope that you will see University Life as your hub for events, information and opportunities to share, connect and engage.
University Life has a range of resources to help you thrive. You can follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay updated, and check out our Student Voices page to hear other students’ stories–or to share your own! You can also get to know a bit about my background and learn more about my colleagues at University Life.
We have exciting events planned for Columbia Spring Welcome!
- Cocoa and Go. University Life Ambassadors will be offering free coffee and cocoa in Kent Hall 201 on 1/19 from 11 AM-1 PM and 1/20 from 10 AM-noon, while supplies last.
- Virtual Vinyasa Yoga Class. Lean back into school and join Columbia Physical Education and Recreation for a virtual yoga class! 1/19 at 6 PM. Registration is required.
- Virtual Film Screening: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The University Life Events Council invites you to a free virtual screening that you can watch anytime 1/21-1/23 in the comfort of your own home! Information on how to access the film will be emailed to you 12 hours before the event. RSVP is required.
- MLK Day of Service. Join the University Life Events Council and Community Impact on 1/24 as they support literacy initiatives in Harlem elementary schools by creating bookmarks at home and/or by donating gently used books to the classrooms. Free DIY bookmark materials will be available from 10am-4pm. RSVP is required and details will be provided upon registration.
- Affinity Spaces. These affinity spaces will bring students together to network, engage and socialize. They are designed with the needs of particular student communities in mind; however, all students are welcome. LGBTQ+ Affinity Space, 1/25, 4-5 PM; First Generation Affinity Space, 1/26, 4-5 PM; BI&POC Affinity Space, 1/26, 6-7 PM.
- Virtual Speed Friending. University Life, in partnership with the Mailman Graduate Student Association and the School of Nursing Student Council, is hosting two sessions of networking, games, and free e-gift card giveaways. Register here for 1/25 at 6 PM, and register here for 1/27 at 6 PM.
While we look ahead with optimism, COVID-19 safety remains top of mind for all of us. You can always find the most up-to-date information about requirements and protocols on the University’s COVID-19 website.
Please email us at [email protected] any time with questions or feedback. We look forward to connecting with you and hope to see you at events throughout the Spring term!
