Constructing Confidence, Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, and Other Events and Opportunities, 2/15-3/1

This week’s University Life Forum: Listening to Your Anxiety may be postponed, but we hope that you’ll join Columbia Black Students’ Organization for a chat with University Life’s Executive Vice President, Dennis Mitchell, this Thursday, February 17 at 9:00 PM. He will share his experiences promoting diversity over his 30 years at Columbia and there will be an opportunity to ask questions! You can join the conversation on Thursday via Zoom.

- Day of Service. Want to play a part in transcribing historic documents from the Smithsonian to make them more accessible? Join the University Life Events Council and the Smithsonian Institution's Transcription Center to transcribe records from the Freedman's Bureau. - Constructing Confidence: A Workshop to Overcome Imposter Syndrome. Imposter syndrome can make you feel like a fraud, like you just “got lucky” in achieving your accomplishments. In this workshop, we will address this issue head-on and share strategies for overcoming these feelings. - Virtual Film Screening: Candyman. The University Life Events Council invites you to a virtual screening of Candyman, a supernatural horror film directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Jordan Peele. Space is limited, RSVP is required. Friday, February 25 - Sunday, February 27. Register here.
- March Movement Challenge. Enhance your well-being and shake off the Zoom fatigue by taking part in this month-long challenge inspired by scavenger hunts and a variety of fitness events. - CU Film Showcase: Call for Student Films. The University Life Events Council wants to showcase short films created by students throughout the campus community. Want your film to be a part of this showcase? Make sure to sign up here by Sunday, March 6, The Film Showcase will take place virtually on Friday, April 7.
- Yoga Class. Religious Life is offering free yoga classes in Earl Hall every Tuesday evening this semester. No pre-registration required. Please bring your own mat and arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign in and set up. Tuesdays, 7:00-8:00 PM. Learn more.

- The Monotonous Chaos of Existence: Ursula Lindsey in conversation with author Hisham Bustani. This event from Global Centers: Amman features a conversation with Hisham Bustani, whose stories explore the turbulent transformation in contemporary Arab societies. Wednesday, 2/16, 11:30 AM. - Cultivating Creativity and Resilience: A Three-Session Workshop Series. In this series of interactive workshops from Columbia Health, participants will respond to open-ended prompts that have been shown to increase the creative mindset, leading to more creativity, resiliency, and agency. - A Virtual Talk With Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Columbia School of Nursing and CUIMC's African, Black and Caribbean Employee Resource Group will host a conversation on anti-racism with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, author, professor, anti-racist activist, and historian of race and policy in America. Wednesday, 2/16, 6:00-7:00 PM. Register here.
- National Random Act of Kindness Day. Student Health on Haven’s Well-Being and Health Promotion is collaborating with artist Vicky Barone to produce and distribute illustrated Kindness Cards to the CUIMC community on campus. - Youth in India and China: Hopes and Anxieties Amidst Global Change. Join the Committee for Global Thought for a conversation between two young authors, Zak Dychtwald and Vivan Marwaha, as they provide insights gleaned through their research and interviews with young people of the two most populous nations in the world. - Alumni in Conversation: Space Engineers. Join Gabrielle Barbour '20GS, Kyle Hughes '18SEAS, and Michael Massimino '84SEAS for an engaging discussion about their experience at Columbia and their journeys working in the field of space engineering. Thursday, 2/17, 6:00-7:00 PM. Register here.

- Complex Issues: Pride, “1950s: People Had Parties”. This conversation with Director Tom Kalin, Film Program, Executive Producer Alex Stapleton, George Chauncey, Department of History, and Kendall Thomas, Columbia Law School, explores the first episode of Pride, a documentary series chronicling the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in the United States from the 1950s to the 2000s. - Hacking for Humanity and the Planet Venture Incubator course. This course is open to all Columbia students interested in social, environmental, health, and other impact ventures that are addressing problems affecting people and the planet. Apply by Friday, 2/18.
- Center for Jazz Studies Teaching and Performance Opportunity. Internships are still available for dance enthusiasts to participate in a unique teaching and performance opportunity with young people at the Harlem School of the Arts. - Program for Diversity and Inclusion in Commercialization and Entrepreneurship (DICE). DICE aims to support early-career individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups in science entrepreneurship and commercialization. DICE will provide eligible Columbia graduate students and postdocs with educational programming, mentorship, networking, and funding opportunities to prepare participants for careers in bringing life science and physical science innovation to market. - Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022 Application. The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long leadership development program for undergraduate students. The application for the 2022 cohort is now open and applying by the priority deadline is strongly encouraged. Priority Deadline: Monday, 2/28. Final application deadline: Thursday, 3/31. Apply here.
