A Welcome Message from University Life

September 03, 2024

Dear Students,

Welcome (or welcome back) to Columbia! All of us at University Life are glad you’re here and eager to help you make the most of your time at Columbia.

Reflecting on the extraordinary talents and passions that led each of you to Columbia, we are excited to work with you in this academic year and beyond. University Life hopes to support you in finding meaningful connections, spaces you can express yourself, any resources you may need, service opportunities within and outside Columbia, and chances to help others feel welcome in our community.

We are kicking off the semester with Welcome Week, a series of events happening September 3-13. These events are a great way to meet new people and prepare for the year ahead! We’ve highlighted a few events below, but you can visit our website to see all of the events we have planned.

  • Low-Lapalooza: Silent Disco (In-Person). Dance the night away and enjoy Insomnia cookies, giveaways, photos, and much more! The first 300 students to enter can borrow headsets for the duration of the event. Friday, September 6, 7:15 - 8:45 p.m.. Learn more.

  • Passport to Columbia: Connect, Enjoy Activities, and More (In-Person). Kick-start the fall semester with the University Life Events Council and the International Students & Scholars Office! All are welcome at this mixer, celebrating our international community. Join us for get-to-know-you bingo, trivia, activities, Insomnia cookies, and more! Tuesday, September 10, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Register here.

  • Community Connections BBQ (In-Person). You’re invited to our first Community Connections BBQ, celebrating the diverse identities of our students! This gathering aims to create a supportive community where students from diverse backgrounds can connect, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships. Swing by Kent 202 to pick up your ticket. Wednesday, September 11, 12 - 2 p.m. Learn more.

All Welcome Week events are free and open to all students. Just bring your CUID!
