University Life Events & Opportunities
- Social Justice Mini-Grant Program. Tomorrow, November 7 is the deadline to apply for the Social Justice Mini-Grant Program. Grantees will receive funds to share their innovative ideas to address social injustices, including efforts to bring awareness to racial, economic, accessibility, and educational inequities. - Campus Conversations: Who's in the Room? (In-Person). Talk about your social circles with peers, exploring who you spend the most time with and which groups you might not be interacting with as often. First 15 people to attend will receive a free mug! - Graduate Hangout: Friendsgiving (In-Person). Enjoy a meal with friends and make new ones! You’ll also have the opportunity to share what makes you feel thankful. This event is part of The Graduate Initiative. Thursday, November 9, 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Register here.
- Trans and Queer Futures (In-Person). Join us at the School of Nursing as we hold space for trans and queer Columbia students. Together, we’ll reflect on community, resilience, and allyship. All trans and queer students and allies are welcome. Assorted hors d'oeuvres and small bites will be provided. Monday, November 13, 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Register here.
- Campus Conversations: The Story of Your Name (Virtual). Discuss the origin of your name with peers and listen as others share the story of their name and why it matters to them. This conversation will also explore the impact of bias and how a name can shape the way a person or group of people navigate the world. Tuesday, November 14, 1:30 - 2:30 PM. Register here.
- Board Game Social (In-Person). Play board games, meet new people, and enjoy Insomnia Cookies with the University Life Events Council. Kick off the evening with a quick round of board game trivia, then enjoy a casual space to play board games and relax with friends. Thursday, November 16, 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Register here.
- Call for Low Lounge Performers. The University Life Events Council seeks performers to share their talent at Low Lounge: Summer in December, which will take place on Sunday, December 10 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM in Low Library. This annual Columbia tradition is open to all students from all schools, and provides a space where students can relax and unwind during finals. Apply here by November 22.
- Cultivating Hope. You can learn to be more hopeful. Cultivating a deep hope that is aware of darkness is a practice. Join Dr. Shirley Matthews of Counseling and Psychological Services and Dr. Karissa Thacker of Union Theological Seminary to explore what the combination of positive psychology and religious traditions have to offer you on the path to a more hopeful life. - Spiritual Wellness Workshops (In-Person). Religious Life and the Spirituality Mind Body Institute at Teachers College invite you to recharge and care for yourself. These upcoming workshops will explore yoga, mindfulness, connecting with nature, photography, and more. Various times, October 24 - December 14. Learn more and register here.
- Yoga Class (Virtual). Take a break and relax at this yoga class hosted by Religious Life. Bring your own mat and arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign in and set up. Thursday, November 16, 7:00 - 8:00 PM. Learn more.

- Support Space for Students with Family or Friends in Israel
Wednesdays, 12:00 - 1:30 PM
In-Person
This in-person confidential space is intended to provide comfort and support for students with personal connections to Israel, who are worried about the safety and well-being of their loved ones there or contending with grief at the loss of friends or relations in the conflict.
