University Life Events & Opportunities
- Grad Hangout: Stretch. Breathe. Meditate. (In-Person). Take a moment to breathe, stretch, or meditate. Light refreshments will be available. This event is part of The Graduate Initiative. Wednesday, November 1, 2:30 - 3:30 PM. Register Here.
- Rocky Horror Picture Show (In-Person). Join the University Life Events Council for a thrilling live action performance and screening of the classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. Come early to grab a good seat and a prop bag while they last! Wednesday, November 1, 7:30 - 9:30 PM. Register here.
- Social Justice Mini-Grant Program. Apply for the Social Justice Mini-Grant Program and share your innovative ideas to address social injustices, including efforts to bring awareness to racial, economic, accessibility, and educational inequities. Learn more and apply by November 7.
- Graduate Hangout: Friendsgiving (In-Person). Enjoy a meal with friends and make new ones! You’ll also have the opportunity to share what makes you feel thankful. This event is part of The Graduate Initiative. Thursday, November 9, 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Register here.
- Trans and Queer Futures (In-Person). Join us at the School of Nursing as we hold space for trans and queer Columbia students. Together, we’ll reflect on community, resilience, and allyship. - Campus Conversations: The Story of Your Name (Virtual). Discuss the origin of your name with peers and listen as others share about their name and why it matters to them. This conversation will also explore the impact of bias and how a name can shape the way a person or group of people navigate the world. Tuesday, November 14, 1:30 - 2:30 PM. Register here.
- Board Game Social (In-Person). Play board games, meet new people, and enjoy Insomnia Cookies with the University Life Events Council. Kick off the evening with a quick round of board game trivia, then enjoy a casual space to play board games and relax with friends. Thursday, November 16, 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Register here.
- Spiritual Wellness Workshops (In-Person). Religious Life and the Spirituality Mind Body Institute at Teachers College invite you to recharge and care for yourself. These upcoming workshops will explore yoga, mindfulness, connecting with nature, photography, and more. Various times, October 24 - December 14. Learn more and register here.
- Virtual Yoga Class (Virtual). Take a break and relax at this yoga class hosted by Religious Life. Classes will take place virtually, while Earl Hall is renovated. Thursday, November 2, 7:00 - 8:00 PM. Register here.
Upcoming Community Citizenship Initiative Events
The following events fulfill one of the requirements for the Community Citizenship Initiative (CCI). If you’re a first year student, make sure you complete the initiative by this Friday, November 3.
- Campus Conversations: Who's in the Room? (In-Person). Talk about your social circles with peers and explore who you spend the most time with and which groups of people you aren’t noticing in your circles, and why. This event fulfills the Inclusion & Belonging component. First 15 people to attend will receive a free mug! Upcoming conversations:
Support Spaces
Columbia Health Counseling and Psychological Services is hosting support spaces for Morningside/Manhattanville students who have family and friends in Israel and Palestine. View all Columbia Health support spaces.
- Support Space for Students with Family or Friends in Gaza, Lebanon, West Bank

This in-person confidential space is intended to provide comfort and support for students with personal connections to Palestine, who are worried about the safety and well-being of their loved ones there or contending with grief at the loss of friends or relations in the conflict.

- Black Love Letters Panel and Book Celebration (In-Person). Black Love Letters is a new anthology of letters and original illustrations about Black community, struggle, joy, love, and Blackness in its many forms. - Carla Kuhn Speaker Series: "Radical" (In-Person). Join the Lenfest Center for the Arts for a screening of the film Radical. A Q&A with the writer and director, Christopher Zalla (SOA’04), and the producer, Ben Odell (SOA’04), will follow. Thursday, November 2, 6:30 - 9:30 PM. Register here.
- Gentle Yoga Flow Sunday (Virtual). Columbia Health Sexual Violence Response (SVR) will host a gentle yoga flow incorporating slow stretching and breathing exercises. The session will close with a guided meditation. Sunday, November 5, 3:00 - 4:30 PM. Register here.
- Situational Awareness (Virtual). Public Safety presents a training on Situational Awareness: being aware of where you are and what is happening around you.
