Join us tomorrow (November 13) from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. for Citizen-Leaders: A Conversation with the Obama Foundation Scholars in the World Room at Pulitzer Hall. We’ll hear from the Obama Scholars about active citizenship and the power to effect change. A boxed lunch will be available for the first 75 students to arrive.

  • Share your ideas with the Campus Collaborative Fund! Do you have an idea for how to make Columbia a more welcoming and inclusive place? The Campus Collaborative is funding student-led events and projects that strengthen our sense of community. You can apply as an individual or with a group. Apply by November 28. Learn more.  
  • Call for performers! The University Life Events Council seeks performers to share their talent at our end-of-semester study break. This annual Columbia tradition provides a space for students to relax and unwind before finals. More details about this free and fun study break will be available soon. You are welcome to apply as an individual performer or with a group. Apply by November 13.
  • Community Connections: First-Gen (In-Person). This event aims to celebrate first-generation graduate students by offering a safe space to connect with peers. Join us as we create personalized vision boards that reflect your goals and aspirations. Please bring a laptop or tablet to create your digital vision board.   • The Votes Are In: Reflections on the Election (Virtual). Join University Life and the School of International Public Affairs (SIPA) for a post-election webinar to discuss and consider the potential impact of the 2024 U.S. Election. We will explore what policies the next Presidential administration may bring, the makeup of the 119th Congress, and other state and local voting and election trends.   • Grad Hangout: Friendsgiving (In-Person). Enjoy heartwarming dishes, fun games, and the best company at this year’s cozy Friendsgiving event, hosted by University Life. Thursday, November 21, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Registration is required.
  • Sacred Music Concerts (Hybrid). Religious Life is hosting sacred music concerts throughout the Fall semester. Find a moment for quiet reflection and beautiful music:
  • ‘Summer Solstice’ Screening and Discussion (In-Person). The School of the Arts Film Program and University Life present a screening followed by a conversation between writer/director Noah Schamus ARTS’21 and Ron Gregg, Film and Media Studies, positioning ‘Summer Solstice’ within the history of queer cinema.
  • New or First-Year Columbia University students attending this event will receive credit for the Inclusion and Belonging component of the Columbia Citizenship Initiative. Friday, November 22, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Register here.
  • Yoga Class (In-Person). Take a break and relax with yoga in Earl Hall hosted by Religious Life. Please bring your own mat and arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and set up! Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Learn more.

Undergraduate students are invited to submit their research to the third annual Data Science Research Fair. Learn more about this year’s theme Coevolution: Human Intuition + Computational Innovation, exploring the synergies between human and artificial intelligences. This event is hosted by Data Science Institute's Data, Media & Society Center. Please note: Research submissions are open only to undergraduate students. All community members are welcome to attend the fair.

Happening Around Campus

  • Situational Awareness (Virtual). Public Safety presents this training on Situational Awareness: being aware of where you are and what is happening around you. Learn about safety resources and strategies for personal and communal safety. Friday, November 15, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Register here.
  • Name Pronunciation Workshop (In-Person). Learn to improve your pronunciation of names from different languages at this workshop hosted by Center for International Foreign Language Teacher Education at Teachers College.   • Lights on the Plaza (In-Person). Join the Manhattanville community on The Plaza for Columbia University’s annual Manhattanville winter tree lighting ceremony. Enjoy refreshments and live music with your neighbors before we begin the lights countdown promptly at 5:45 PM. Festive dress optional, but encouraged!   • Evening in America: Global Perspectives on the U.S. Election Results (In-Person). Join Adam Tooze, prize-winning author and historian at Columbia University, for a provocative discussion about what the US elections mean for the rest of the world. Evening in America will feature Directors of the Columbia Global Centers in Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, and Tunis. They will share their analysis on how people in their regions and globally are talking about the process, results, and what is at stake now that the election is over.   • The Fight to Protect Immigrants' Rights During Trump I and What To Expect During Trump II. Columbia Law School is hosting a discussion with Lee Gelernt (ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project) and Elora Mukherjee of the Immigrants' Rights Clinic.
