- Mental Illness Awareness Week Tabling Event at Dodge (In-Person). The Center for Student Success and Intervention, Columbia Athletics, and Columbia Health are tabling in front of Dodge Fitness Center in recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week and National Student Athlete Mental Health Week. - Focus Group: First-Generation Graduate Students (Virtual). Calling all first-generation graduate students, the Center for Student Success and Intervention invites you to discuss your experiences. Your feedback will assist us in developing University services that will help meet the needs and goals of first-generation graduate students. Friday, October 11,1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Register here.
- Awakening Our Democracy: AI in the Ballot Box (In-Person) As the Presidential elections approach, join us for this panel discussion on the impact of AI on the 2024 elections. We will discuss the importance of AI literacy and how AI has the potential to both bolster and erode democracy. - Sacred Music Concerts (Hybrid). Religious Life is hosting sacred music concerts throughout the Fall semester. Find a moment for quiet reflection and beautiful music:
- Yoga Class (In-Person). Take a break and relax with yoga in Earl Hall hosted by Religious Life. Please bring your own mat and arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and set up! Thursdays, 7 - 8 p.m. Learn more.
Community Citizenship Initiative
The following events fulfill one of the two requirements for the Community Citizenship Initiative.
- Recognizing and Responding to Intimate Partner Violence (In-Person). Join Sexual Violence Response (SVR) to learn about the dynamics of intimate partner violence. understanding the dynamics of intimate partner violence. Participants will explore the role of various types of power in relationships and the short- and long-term physical, psychological, economic, social, and spiritual impacts of violence in intimate relationships. - Campus Conversation: Exploring the Social Identity Wheel (In-Person). Join University Life to reflect on your social identities and the various ways those identities become visible or felt at different times. This event fulfills the Inclusion & Belonging component. - Loving Me Means This (In-Person). Join Sexual Violence Response (SVR) to unpack what a healthy relationship might look like for you personally. This workshop is focused on healing and unlearning unhealthy behaviors in relationships - romantic and beyond. This event fulfills the Sexual Respect component. - A Workshop & Conversation on Bias - Recognizing the Role We Play (In-Person). Join University Life for an introductory discussion about the factors that cause and perpetuate bias and to review resources to minimize bias’ impact on campus. - RelationShorts (In-Person). Sexual Violence Response (SVR) will lead an interactive workshop that uses short films and television clips to help students identify effective and accessible communication methods relating to sexual relationships. - La Breve y Maravillosa Vida de Oscar Wao (The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao) (In-Person) Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Junot Díaz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, brought to life on stage. Performed in Spanish with English subtitles, and presented by the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures and the Mu Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha. Campus Engagement & Entrepreneurship Opportunities
- The President’s Campus Collaborative Fund. Each member of the Columbia community brings their own talents and perspective to our campuses and our work, and everyone should have a voice in strengthening the collective experience for all Columbians. The President’s Campus Collaborative Fund seeks to support and share these voices by funding student, faculty, and staff projects with awards of $1,000 to $5,000. Proposals due by Friday, October 25. - Greater Good Challenge. Submit your business ideas for new products, technology and services that will positively impact people and the environment. Pitch your idea for a chance to win seed money, business coaching, and more. All students are welcome to participate; however, each team must include at least one School of Professional Studies student. Proposals due by Sunday, October 27. Learn more.

- Sarah Gronningsater Book Talk - The Rising Generation (In-Person). The Columbia University & Slavery Project and the Lehman Center for American History will host a discussion about The Rising Generation, a book about Black New Yorkers born following the American Revolution—a cohort that would become significantly influential during the Civil War and in determining the future of slavery. - Book Talk: The Constitutional Bind by Aziz Rana (In-Person). Join the Center for Constitutional Governance for a discussion regarding modern doubt surrounding the Federal Constitution with Aziz Rana on his new book, The Constitutional Bind: How Americans Came to Idolize a Document That Fails Them. - Annual Ella Cara Deloria Lecture (In-Person). Join the Multicultural Affairs and the Native American Council for a screening of the award-winning film, Even the Rain (También la Lluvia), and panel discussion with members of the Borikua Taino Foundation. - Denice Frohman Poetry Reading - Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month (In-Person). Casa Hispanica invites you to a poetry reading featuring Denice Froham.
