All events and opportunities below are in Eastern Time, free, and open to all students unless otherwise noted.

University Life Events and Opportunities

  • Grad Hangout: Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice (In-Person). The Graduate Initiative for Inclusion and Engagement invites you to come spice up your fall with us by making some fall-themed arts and crafts and enjoying some delicious pastries and cozy pumpkin spice coffee drinks. Thursday, October 31, 5 - 6 p.m. Register here.
  • Call for Performers! The University Life Events Council seeks performers to share their talent at our end of semester study break. This annual Columbia tradition provides a space for students to relax and unwind before finals. More details about this free and fun study break will be available soon. You are welcome to apply as an individual performer or with a group. Apply by Thursday, November 7. 
  • Sacred Music Concerts (Hybrid). Religious Life is hosting sacred music concerts throughout the Fall semester. Find a moment for quiet reflection and beautiful music:
  • Citizen-Leaders: A Conversation with the Obama Foundation Scholars (In-Person). Join us for a discussion with Columbia’s Obama Foundation Scholars about active citizenship and the power to effect change in our communities. This event is co-sponsored by Columbia World Projects, the host of the yearlong residency of Obama Foundation Scholars. A boxed lunch is available for the first 70 students to arrive.   • The Votes Are In: Reflections on the Election (Virtual). Join us for a post-election webinar to discuss and consider the potential impact of the 2024 U.S. Election. We will explore what policies the next Presidential administration may bring, the makeup of the 119th Congress, and other notable state and local voting and election trends.     Reminder: Early voting for the 2024 Presidential Election is happening now in New York City. Check out Columbia TurboVote to find your poll site and get election information
  • Yoga Class (In-Person). Take a break and relax with yoga in Earl Hall hosted by Religious Life. Please bring your own mat and arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and set up! Thursdays, 7 - 8 p.m. Learn more.

Community Citizenship Initiative

First year students: Complete the initiative by next Friday, November 8th! The following events fulfill one of the two requirements for the Community Citizenship Initiative (CCI). CCI is required for all first-year students, and open to all students. 


Protect Our Community - Get a Flu Vaccine

The most effective way to limit the spread of flu is to get vaccinated. 

Morningside/Manhattanville Students: Columbia Health is hosting walk-in vaccination fairs* in Lerner Auditorium (Morningside campus):

  • TODAY, October 29, 9 a.m.  - 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 30, 7:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 31, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

And in the Alumni Suite, 2nd Floor, Geffen Hall (Manhattanville campus):

  • Thursday, November 7, 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

*No appointment needed. Just bring your CUID. Each day of the flu fair, a limited quantity of special “Fight Flu” Alma and Roar-ee pins will be available to the first 200 community members who get their flu shot. 


CUIMC Students: Tomorrow (10/30) is the final day Student Health on Haven is hosting a free vaccination fair.  An appointment can be made on the Student Health Portal.* The flu vaccine is required for all clinical students and strongly encouraged for all students. 

  • Wednesday, October 30, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., 50 Haven – Main Lounge

*Walk-ins will be accepted.  Please bring your CUID. If you receive your vaccine with anyone other than Student Health on Haven, please submit documentation through the Student Health Portal (required for clinical students).


Happening Around Campus

  • Peace and Presence | Nervous System Regulation: Caring for the Self (Virtual). Practice breathing exercises, learn somatic practices for grounding and balance, and explore different mindfulness and herbalism tips to use if you are feeling dysregulated. This workshop is hosted by Columbia Health Sexual Violence Response TONIGHT, October, 6 - 7:30 p.m. & Thursday, November 7, 6 - 7:30 p.m. Register here.
  • What Do Russians Think of Putin and War in 2024? (In-Person). The Program on U.S.-Russia Relations at the Harriman Institute invites you to a of what we actually know about trends in public opinion in Russia after 2.5 years of the full-scare war against Ukraine.
