University Life's Education & Training Team Launches Leadership Week

University Life’s Education and Training Team is hosting its inaugural Leadership Week, happening from Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10! 

This series of 13 workshops is designed to help you grow your leadership skills, both professionally and personally, through strengthening foundational skills, including: communication, self awareness, conflict navigation, confidence building, community engagement, and more. This is a great opportunity to invest in yourself and to connect with other students along the way.

  • Knowing, Being, and Doing – Understanding Yourself as a Leader (In-Person)
    • This workshop is designed to help you discover your leadership style and how to lead with purpose. You’ll explore your personal strengths, leadership approach, and the ways your experiences shape how you engage with others in the world.

  • Lead with Resource Fluency: Navigating Columbia and NYC Support (Online)
    • Build resource fluency by learning how Columbia’s decentralized support system works, how to identify the best entry points for support, and how to connect peers to help even when they aren’t sure what they need. You’ll leave with a clearer map of key Columbia and NYC supports, plus practical next steps to help you respond with confidence and care.

  • Leading with Others - Navigating Relationships and Building Community (In-Person)
    • Designed to help you navigate relationships and build community with intentionality, this workshop offers interactive exercises and guided discussion on how leadership works in real-world contexts and how you can foster connections that make a lasting difference.

  • Leading with Self-Awareness: An Intro to the Enneagram Presenter (In-Person)
    • Introducing the Enneagram, a practical tool for understanding what drives you, how you respond under stress, and how you show up in teams. You will complete a brief Enneagram assessment during the session, learn how to interpret your results, and walk away with simple strategies you can use right away in student leadership roles, meetings, and group projects.

  • Managing Conflict - Leading with Courage and Care (In-Person)
    • Learn practical tools and strategies to approach challenging conversations thoughtfully, manage disagreements constructively, and lead with respect and cultural awareness. Conflict is a natural part of leadership, and handling it effectively is essential for building strong, collaborative, and high-functioning teams.

  • Leadership in Uncertain Times (In-Person)
    • In moments of uncertainty, leaders are tested in uniquely challenging ways. This workshop uses conversations and case-studies to reflect on past experiences, and share some best practices related to the need for strong leadership in the midst of complicated moments.

  • Leading in Living Color (In-Person)
    • Leadership comes in all shades and there is no one perfect hue to being a student leader. Discover (or re-discover!) your True Colors results and learn how your unique blend of traits impact your role as a student leader.

  • Leading and Engaging in Society - Creating Positive Change (In-Person)
    • Reflect on your impact as a global citizen and an agent of positive social change. Because leadership touches every area of life — personal, professional, and societal — this session will specifically look at ways to help you strengthen your skills in empathy, collaboration, and community engagement.

  • The Puzzle Pieces of Policy Informed Leadership (In-Person)
    • This session explores how institutional policies such as FERPA, student conduct processes, and reporting expectations fit together to guide effective leadership. Through collaborative communication, student leaders will learn to navigate difficult conversations around privacy, self awareness, and you may even complete a puzzle or two.
