We write to share some upcoming events and ideas to explore New York City. We hope you are staying cool and taking care.

Upcoming Events

All events below are in Eastern Time, free of charge, and open to all students  unless otherwise noted.

  • Sounds of Summer: Lunchtime Concert (In-Person). Enjoy this concert by queer femme rock trio Razor Braids and an afternoon of giveaways and delicious snacks. This event is hosted by the School of Professional Studies. Wednesday, July 24, 12:30 - 2 p.m. Register here. 
  • Mock Seminar: Reading NYC at War (In-Person). Through literature and discussion, explore how various wars have impacted New York. This event is part of a series hosted by the Center for Veteran Transition and Integration. Refreshments will be served. Wednesday, July 24, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Register here.
  • Across the Aisle: Paid Leave in the United States (Virtual). The Institute of Global Politics invites you to a discussion about the history of family leave, recent developments in national policy, and the work remaining for the 118th Congress and beyond. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), co-chairs of the Paid Family Leave Working Group, will discuss this topic with Columbia professors Jane Waldfogel and Sandra Black.   • Resilience in the Face of Upheaval: Mathare’s Women Speak out on Government Demolitions (Virtual). Hear from Nairobi community leaders about extreme rainfall and flash flooding this year, why government demolitions in flood-prone areas have exacerbated community challenges, and the reaction and resilience strategies or local leaders. This event is hosted by Columbia Global Centers Nairobi. Tuesday, July 30, 9 - 10 a.m. Register here. 
  • Volunteer on Broadway (In-Person). This summer, Community Impact and Broadway Community invite you to participate in a culinary service opportunity. You can work alongside Community Lunch's head chef to prepare meals for neighbors in the Morningside Heights community, serve food, and/or support its food pantry operations. Various dates and times. Share Your Voice: Complete the HEALS Survey

The National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago is conducting a survey to help our community better understand student experiences with cross-cultural interactions, antisemitism, Islamophobia, and freedom of expression on campus. The survey takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and all participants who complete the survey will receive a $10 Amazon gift code.
