We have a wide variety of exciting events and opportunities across the University for you this week!
Under the Key to NYC requirements, dining and entertainment events require proof of vaccination at the door. For any in-person event listed below, please be prepared to provide proof of vaccination and a picture ID.
University Life Opportunities and Events (All events in ET)
- Virtual Cardio Kickboxing Class. Join us as we team up with Columbia Physical Education and Recreation to host an online kickboxing class. No equipment or experience required. Thursday, November 11, 1:30 PM. Register here.
- Day of Service. Interested in volunteering to serve the communities around Columbia’s campuses? Sign up for this Day of Service, hosted by the University Life Events Council, and choose one of four volunteer opportunities. Saturday, November 13, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Sign up here.
- Low Lounge Performer Sign-up. The University Life Events Council is hosting the annual Low Lounge celebration on Tuesday, December 14. Celebrate the end of the semester, as the Low Library Rotunda is transformed into the ultimate study break with snacks, games, student performances, raffles and more! Interested in performing at this event? Be sure to sign up before Sunday, November 14.
- Graduate Initiative: APIDA Faculty Roundtable. The Graduate Initiative for Inclusion and Engagement invites you to the next installment of the Faculty Roundtable Series, focusing on the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American community. Have meaningful conversations with faculty about critical issues affecting marginalized communities. Although this series was developed with graduate students in mind, all are welcome to join! - Apply to Join the 2022-23 University Life Events Council. The University Life Events Council is a great way to get involved with campus life, meet students from all of Columbia’s schools and gain leadership experience! Interested in learning more? Apply by Sunday, November 21!
- Yoga Class. Join Religious Life for a free one-hour yoga class every Wednesday at 7:00 PM throughout Fall semester. Bring your own mat and arrive 10 minutes early to reserve your spot, as there is a 20-person maximum. See upcoming classes here.
University-wide Events and Opportunities (All events in ET)
- Critical Race Theory and Writing for the General Reader. The Columbia Public Writing Series continues with a discussion featuring Professor of Journalism Jelani Cobb, as he discusses his work on the late legal scholar Derrick Bell, long considered one of the founding scholars of Critical Race Theory. - Website Design Best Practices for Wealth Managers. Join SPS’ Wealth Management Program for a workshop that will explain the psychology behind website design practices and help you to build your own successful website. Monday, November 15, 12:00-1:00 PM. Register here.
- Face to Face: Navigating Microaggressions & In-Person Learning. Join this discussion on how the return to in-person classroom settings brings with it potential for experiences with interpersonal marginalization and microaggressions. Panelists will share their personal experiences and offer advice for responding to and coping with these encounters. Monday, November 15, 4:00-5:00 PM. Register here.
- Columbia University Trans Awareness Week Keynote: Eva Reign. LGBTQ+ @ Columbia and Multicultural Affairs are hosting a conversation with Black trans actor and writer, Eva Reign, as she talks about the power of storytelling. Monday, November 15, 7:00-8:00 PM. Register here.
Fellowship Opportunities
- Nobel Ignitors Fellowship Essay Challenge. The Ignitor Fellowship Program is a new and exciting extracurricular program available to all students who are interested in making the change they want to see in the world. Interested in applying? Learn more about the Essay Challenge and the Program here. Essays due by Monday, November 15.
- Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022 Application. The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long leadership development program that happens on campus. The application for the 2022 cohort is now open and applying by the priority deadline of Tuesday, November 30 is strongly encouraged. The final application deadline is March 31, 2022.
- Obama Foundation Scholars Application. Each year, Columbia World Projects hosts a cohort of Obama Foundation Scholars, an immersive, fully-funded, residential program in New York City for students who have demonstrated a commitment to finding solutions to challenges in their communities. Applications are now open and must be submitted by Wednesday, December 22 at 5:00 PM.
