A Quick Note From University Life
Dear Students,
As we make our way through another day in this rapidly changing time, I want to take a moment this evening to let you know that all of us in University Life are thinking of you and continue to be here for your questions and suggestions.
We know many of you have seen news that New York City might adopt a “shelter-in-place” policy, and that other cities in the United States and around the world already have a rule that requires people to stay home other than to get food, medical care or other necessities.
To be clear, there is not a “shelter in place” rule in New York City at this time. The University is closely monitoring the situation, and if this policy is put in place in New York City, we will follow up with detailed information for you.
In the meantime, we appreciate that you are maintaining social distancing and following other simple measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission:
- Do not gather in small spaces with poor ventilation, and keep at least six feet between yourself and other people whenever possible.
- Avoid handshakes, hugging and other close contact, and avoid contact with people who are sick.
- Do not share food and drink.
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow, and don’t touch your face unless you recently washed your hands.
Columbia Health has a list of several free mobile apps that can help with coping and calm, in case you might find that handy in this moment.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact your Dean of Students Office or write to us at [email protected].
In community,
Professor Suzanne B. Goldberg
Executive Vice President for University Life
Herbert and Doris Wechsler Clinical Professor of Law
