University Life Events & Opportunities
All events listed below are in Eastern Time (ET), free, and open to all students across all schools and campuses.

  • The Reading Nook: Bring a Book, Take a Break (In-Person). Take a break and celebrate National Reading Month with University Life and Butler Library. Make your own tassel bookmarks, play Bingo for a chance to win a Book Culture gift card, swap books with others, and indulge in sweet treats. Stay for a few minutes or a few hours!   • Self-Guided Meditation Space (In-Person). University Life invites you to take a break and unwind in a peaceful, self-guided meditation space. Enjoy a quiet atmosphere to decompress, reflect, and relax. Snacks will be provided for all students who stop by. CUID is required. Thursday, March 13, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Learn more.
  • Public Benefits Workshop (Virtual). Join CSSI’s Case Management and Student Support team to learn more about SNAP, WIC, and other benefits available through New York City Access HRA. You will also learn how to connect with the Case Management and Student Support team for support with basic needs and connections to internal and external resources.   • Apply to be a CSSI Student Navigator. Student Navigators work with the Center for Student Success and Intervention (CSSI) to support students in the Student Conduct process by answering procedural questions, facilitating restorative conversations, and providing peer support. They also help educate the University community on ethics, integrity, and community standards. Applications due by noon on Monday, March 17. Apply here.
  • Thriving Under Pressure: Mental Health Strategies for Uncertainty (In-Person). Grad school can feel like a constant balancing act – balancing research, relationships, finances, and personal well-being, all while navigating the uncertainty of your future. Join Dr. Keoshia Worthy for this presentation, where you will learn about building resilience by understanding the impact of stress on both the mind and body.   • The Food Pantry at Columbia Student Leadership Board Openings. The Food Pantry serves all currently registered students across Columbia’s 21 schools, colleges, and affiliates.   • Sacred Music Concerts (Hybrid). Join Religious Life for this free, weekly concert series in St. Paul’s Chapel. Learn more and register for an upcoming concert.

  • Crafts on the Corner: Sketch Sessions (In-Person). The Crafts on the Corner event series provides accessible and free opportunities for the community to explore their artistic potential, enhance crafting skills, and cultivate community through shared creative experiences.   • Art and Heart: The World of Isaiah Sheffer (In-Person). Art and Heart: The World of Isaiah Sheffer is a celebration of Isaiah Sheffer’s life and work, intercut with archival material, interviews with friends and colleagues, and stage performances. Join this screening of the film exploring his life, impact on the arts scene, and the tremendous effect he had on those around him followed by a discussion with Ethel Sheffer.   • The Public Health Impact of Wildfires: Rebuilding for Resilience (Virtual). Join a panel of experts for a webinar on the short- and long-term health impacts of wildfires. This discussion will explore strategies for resilience and policy solutions. Thursday, March 13, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Register here.
  • The Bel Canto Piano with Marc Peloquin (In-Person). Bel canto (“beautiful singing”) is a vocal style originating in Italy and flourished in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In this concert, acclaimed pianist Marc Peloquin will perform music for solo piano that exemplifies the essence of the bel canto style. Thursday, March 13, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Register here
  • Self-Defense Class (In-Person). Public Safety and Shotokan Karate Club are teaming up to provide a free self-defense class. Learn about situational awareness, street smarts, commuter safety, and basic self-defense tactics. Tuesday, March 18, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Register here.
