Dear Students,

We write to share some ways to get involved in our community and to explore new ideas through conversations, as well as to relax and take a break.  We look forward to seeing you at these events and hope you enjoy the opportunities.

All events and opportunities below are in Eastern Time, free, and open to all students unless otherwise noted.

University Life Events and Opportunities

  • Share Your Ideas with the Campus Collaborative Fund! Do you have an idea for how to make Columbia a more welcoming and inclusive place? The Campus Collaborative is funding student-led events and projects that strengthen our sense of community. You can apply as an individual or with a group. Apply by November 28. Learn more. 
  • Apply to Become a Campus Conversations Leader! Students who are selected to participate in our leadership development program will receive awards of up to $500 and training to build the necessary skills to engage in and hold space for difficult conversations impacting students across campus. This is a great opportunity to build inclusive leadership skills, become a better listener, and gain experience with group discussions. Learn more and apply by December 6.
  • Want to Work with Religious Life? Religious Life has two program associate positions available. Undergraduate or graduate students who are work study-eligible and interested in supporting interfaith programming are encouraged to apply. Learn more and apply here.

  • Calling All Singers! Sacred Music at Columbia is looking for students to join the St. Paul's Chapel Christmas Choir for the annual Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols – a service of traditional Christmas music and readings. All singers are welcome to join the choir. Learn More & Get Involved.
  • Sacred Music Concert (Hybrid). Religious Life is hosting sacred music concerts throughout the Fall semester. Find a moment for quiet reflection and beautiful music. TONIGHT, November 19, 7 - 8 p.m. Learn more.
  • ‘Summer Solstice’ Screening and Discussion (In-Person). The School of the Arts Film Program and University Life present a screening followed by a conversation between writer/director Noah Schamus ARTS’21 and Ron Gregg, Film and Media Studies, positioning ‘Summer Solstice’ within the history of queer cinema. New or First-Year Columbia University students attending this event will receive credit for the Inclusion and Belonging component of the Columbia Citizenship Initiative.   • Yoga Class (In-Person). Take a break and relax with yoga in Earl Hall hosted by Religious Life. Please bring your own mat and arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and set up! Thursdays, 7 - 8 p.m. Learn more.

Happening Around Campus

  • Lights on the Plaza (In-Person). Head to The Plaza for Columbia University’s annual Manhattanville winter tree lighting ceremony. Enjoy refreshments and live music with your neighbors before we begin the lights countdown promptly at 5:45 PM. Festive dress optional, but encouraged!   • Evening in America: Global Perspectives on the U.S. Election Results (In-Person). Join Adam Tooze, prize-winning author and historian at Columbia University, for a provocative discussion about what the U.S. elections mean for the rest of the world, featuring directors of the Columbia Global Centers in Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, and Tunis.   •  CU there! Healthcare Industry Networking Night (In-Person). Join the Columbia Alumni Association at the CUIMC campus. Connect with alumni from all schools of the University who are working in healthcare. Light refreshments will be served. Wednesday, November 20, 6 - 8 p.m. Register here.
  • Public Health in Times of War and Conflict (In-Person). Leading global public health scholars and practitioners will share their deep personal and professional experience in responding to the health needs in conflict zones.   • The Fight to Protect Immigrants' Rights During Trump I and What To Expect During Trump II. Columbia Law School is hosting a discussion with Lee Gelernt (ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project) and Elora Mukherjee of Columbia Law’s Immigrants' Rights Clinic.   • Reshaping Social Media for the Public Good (In-Person). How can we reshape social media to be a more powerful force for community building and civic trust?   • Greater Good Challenge 2024 (Virtual). Students, alumni, and professionals worldwide will team up to pitch bold business ideas tackling our city’s, nation’s, and planet’s toughest challenges.
