Key to NYC ID Requirements and Take a Stretch Break

October 28, 2021

Dear Students,

I hope that you can take a moment to rest as midterm season continues. Taking five minutes to stretch, breathe or get up for a short walk can make a big difference. Try setting a reminder or alarm on your phone and have a plan in place for what to do with your time to yourself. One common method that you might find helpful is the Pomodoro Method. You can use whatever segments of time work best for you, but this image will help you to understand the basic concept.

Flu Fair: Extended!
Columbia Health is extending the Flu Fair in Lerner Auditorium through November 5. From Wednesday, November 3 to Friday, November 5, you will be able to receive a flu shot, free of cost, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Please note: Due to University holidays, there will be no flu fair on November 1 and 2. CUIMC students should contact Student Health on Haven for vaccination opportunities.

Event Capacity Limit Removal
Last week, Provost Mary Boyce sent the Columbia community an email announcing that indoor gathering capacity restrictions will be lifted on Monday, November 1. This policy change applies to all indoor events, with the exception of indoor sporting events, which will be allowed to fill to 70% capacity. As a reminder, masks remain required indoors.

Holidays, Breaks and Keeping Our Community Safe
With Halloween this weekend and Fall Break next week, please review the University’s travel restrictions before making travel arrangements. Those who are traveling or celebrating the holidays with others are urged to remain cautious. If you are traveling, please consider taking advantage of voluntary testing before and/or after your trip.

Key to NYC: Name in Use and Legal Name on Vaccination Card
Key to NYC is a citywide law requiring proof of vaccination to enter many indoor spaces and events. It’s now in effect throughout New York City, and you may have already had the experience of needing to show your identification card, along with your proof of vaccination at restaurants, bars or other establishments. Key to NYC will also apply to certain on-campus spaces and events.

The University is working to support students whose name in use on their CUID differs from the legal name on their vaccination cards (i.e. students who use a preferred/chosen name). If you fall into this category, you may request a vaccine verification letter via email from your campus health team (see below). The letter may be presented alongside your CUID identification as vaccination proof where required on campus.
