JUDE ZILIAK performs internationally on historical forms of the violin. Active as a chamber musician, orchestra director, and soloist, he has been the first violinist of Sonnambula since 2013, and is a principal player with the American Bach Soloists. His recent appearances have included the Magdeburg Telemann Festspiele; guest directing the Arcadia Players; and a concert of music from Vermeer’s lifetime at the National Gallery of Art with Sonnambula. Ziliak has recorded for Avie, Centaur, and Naxos, and has enjoyed collaborations with the English Concert, Les Arts Florissants, and many American period orchestras. A graduate of Juilliard, Rice, and Boston University, he is a faculty member at Special Music School (M. 859), where he trains gifted young string players and directs the Baroque ensemble. He is the program director for the Clarion Collegium Week workshop in New York City.
NICOLA CANZANO (b. 1991) is a composer, harpsichordist, and organist specializing in historical composition and improvisation. Nicola is professor of harpsichord at Michigan State University, and a staff accompanist at the Juilliard School, where he also occasionally lectures on topics such as fugal improvisation. He founded the ensemble Nuova Pratica, a group which specializes in composing and performing their own music in styles of the past on period instruments. He continues to be sought after as a thoughtful continuo player, having played under Masaaki Suzuki, Richard Egarr, Jane Glover, Gary Wedow, Robert Mealy, Paul Watkins, and Dmitri Sinkovsky, among many others. He recently paneled the First International Conference on Historical Improvisation (November, 2022). Nicola maintains a studio for students of harpsichord, baroque improvisation, and composition in New York. He holds degrees from Juilliard, the University of Michigan, and the University of California, and was a student of Edward Parmentier, Joseph Gascho, Béatrice Martin, Peter Sykes, and Richard Egarr.
