In Response to an Attack of Anti-Semitism in San Diego

April 28, 2019

Dear Columbia Community,

Yesterday, the last day of Passover, a Jewish community gathered peacefully in their place of worship in Poway, California. While participating in religious services, they faced a shooting that took the life of at least one member of their community and injured others.

We write to express our heartfelt condolences to those immediately affected and to condemn, yet again, a violent act of Anti-Semitism. We know that the frequency of hate-filled incidents in the world can be distressing to witness and believe it is important to provide resources to those in our community who feel the impact personally, as well as to recommit ourselves, at all times, to the work involved in standing against violence and hatred.

The University has many supportive resources available for all of our students.  Please do not hesitate to reach out for support.  Any students in need of assistance in the coming days can contact their dean of students, any of the resources here - universitylife.columbia.edu/student-resources - or the Office of University Life ([email protected]).

In community,
