Online Instruction: Resources for Students

March 10, 2020

Dear Students,

We write to share resources and tools for online instruction, which starts for most classes tomorrow on Wednesday, March 11. Please review this email carefully before Wednesday morning.

Many courses will use an application called Zoom, which is very simple to install and use. It will be familiar to anyone who has used video calling or video conferencing. Some courses will use other similar technologies.

Please download Zoom now if you do not already have it and test the application using this test page. If you have already installed Zoom but are unsure if it works, the test page can verify that your voice, video and sound are all functioning properly.

We ask that all students join your first online class a minute or two early to avoid last-minute difficulties.

We know many of you have questions about how long online instruction will be in effect. More information will be forthcoming.

If you have technical difficulties with Zoom or other technologies your instructor is using, call the CUIT Service Desk at 212-854-1919 or visit the CUIT Walk-in Center at 202 Philosophy Hall (Morningside) from 10 am-6 pm. If you are on the medical campus, please call 212-305-4357, option 5, or visit the CUIMC Walk-in Center on the 2nd floor of the Hammer Health Science building from 9 am-7 pm.
