The Community Citizenship Initiative for the 2026 - 2027 academic year is in full swing!
This year’s programming stretches from September 28 - November 6, and offers all new students the opportunity to contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and accountable Columbia community.
Throughout the initiative, participants engage with key values and norms through a variety of online modules or in-person workshops that help shape our University culture. These learning opportunities provide a deeper understanding of the impacts of bias, ways to foster inclusion, belonging, and sexual respect, and the inherent value of diverse perspectives and opinions.
“CCI was created to give students an additional avenue to engage with our Columbia community values in a setting they might not have experienced otherwise,” Executive Vice President for University Life and Well-Being Melanie Bernitz said. “This year’s selection of program offerings was thoughtfully curated and designed to spark healthy dialogue and reflection in a structured atmosphere of inclusion, resiliency, and community.”
While new students are automatically enrolled into the initiative, please note that all students are welcome to participate. In order to fulfill the CCI requirement, students complete one option from the offerings list, which includes: attending in-person workshops, joining live webinars, watching video collections, listening to selected podcasts, or watching a documentary. Additionally, some schools offer their own CCI sessions — participants should check with their Dean of Students on available offerings.
