University Life Weekly: Jam sessions, free film screenings, and yoga

University Life Events & Opportunities
All events listed below are in Eastern Time (ET), free, and open to all students across all schools and campuses.
- Sacred Music at Columbia (Hybrid). Join Religious Life at St. Paul’s Chapel for a free, weekly Sacred Music concert, featuring artists and musicians from across the globe. TODAY, October 6, 6 p.m. Learn more about Sacred Music at Columbia.
- Yoga Class (In-Person). Take a break to relax and refresh with yoga in Earl Hall, offered every Monday evening during the fall 2026 semester. Be sure to bring your own mat. Monday, October 12, 7 - 8 p.m. Register for Yoga Class.
- Find a Friend: Jazz Junction (In-Person). Calling all jazz fans! Connect with others through music-themed games and activities, add your favorite tracks to a collaborative playlist, and meet someone new who shares your love for this globally influential genre. - Arts in NY: Buena Vista Social Club (In-Person). Experience the award-winning Broadway musical Buena Vista Social Club with University Life! Meet new friends, dive into Cuba’s rich history, and explore the diasporic roots of iconic art and music. Wednesday, October 14, 4:30 - 9:45 p.m. Register for Arts in NY: Buena Vista Social Club.
- Grads Give Back: Lions for Little Lions (In-Person). Connect with other graduate students and bring warmth to the “little lions” in NYC by assembling Roaree-inspired stuffed animals together. All plushies will be donated to New Alternatives for Children, a non-profit dedicated to providing care for the most vulnerable children in the city. - Baseball as a Road to God: Film Screening and Discussion (In-Person). Join Religious Life for a film screening and discussion with former New York University (NYU) President John Sexton, whose book of the same name provides the inspiration. - History on Trial Film Series (In-Person). Maison Française is hosting a film series covering infamous trials of the past and how historical memory, political accountability, and cultural interpretation overlap through time. The first film in the series will be Bamako, in French and Bambara with English subtitles. October 6 - December 3. Dates vary. Learn more about the History on Trial Film Series.
- Film Screening: Third Degree Burnout: A Survivor's Guide (In-Person). Watch a film screening of Third Degree Burnout: A Survivor's Guide, which explores the connections between personal burnout and the climate crisis, hosted by the Climate School. - Spoooooky Book Time (In-Person). Join a haunting edition of Columbia Libraries’ Wholesome Book Time gathering to explore rare and unique books from the Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Wednesday, October 7, 5 - 6 p.m. Learn more about Spoooooky Book Time.
- Carla Kuhn Screening: 9 Temples to Heaven (In-Person). Catch a free screening of 9 Temples to Heaven, a Main Slate selection at the 64th New York Film Festival, followed by a Q&A with writer and director Sompot Chidgasornpongse and producer Kissada Kamyoung. Thursday, October 8, 6 p.m. Register for Carla Kuhn Screening: 9 Temples to Heaven.
- Managing Conflict — Leading with Courage and Care (In-Person). Learn practical tools and strategies to approach challenging conversations thoughtfully, manage disagreements constructively, and lead with respect and cultural awareness.*This event satisfies the CCI requirement. - Flu Fair - Manhattanville (In-Person). Columbia Health is hosting a walk-in flu vaccination clinic for students from the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses, Teachers College, Lamont-Doherty Observatory, and Nevis Laboratories. No appointments needed, just bring your CUID. Thursday, October 15, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Learn more about the Flu Fair - Manhattanville.
- Flu Fair - CUIMC (In-Person). Student Health on Haven is hosting a flu vaccination clinic for students at the CUIMC campus. Please note: An appointment is needed for the CUIMC campus. - Leading and Engaging in Society – Creating Positive Change (In-Person). Reflect on your impact as a global citizen and an agent of positive social change. Because leadership touches every area of life, this session will specifically look at ways to help you strengthen your skills in empathy, collaboration, and community engagement. *This event satisfies the CCI requirement. - AI in the Ballot Box (2026 Edition) (In-Person). Listen to a host of speakers across disciplines examine how generative artificial intelligence is reshaping electoral politics and public discourse. As part of the Frontiers in Data Science and AI initiative at the Data Science Institute, this event is co-sponsored by University Life, and aims to foster rigorous dialogue on how generative tools impact political persuasion, voter profiling, and democratic participation. - Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) 2026 Fall Film Series (In-Person). Join the ISHR this semester for a human rights film series featuring thought-provoking films and documentaries, open to all Columbia students. Wednesdays, 7:10 p.m. Learn more about the ISHR 2026 Fall Film Series.

- Self-help and crisis resources are available online and across NYC. Columbia Health has collected a list of free or low-cost resources, available for all students across all campuses, online and in the greater NYC community. Student Health on Haven provides access to crisis support for CUIMC students, including community-specific resources that provide multiple pathways to immediate crisis response. - October is Relationship Violence Awareness Month. Columbia Health Sexual Violence Response (SVR) provides trauma-informed confidential support and prevention programs focused on ending gender and power-based violence.
