It’s Transgender Awareness Week, and we invite you to learn more at Community Citizenship Film Series: Disclosure this Wednesday, November 16th from 6:00 - 8:30 PM in Miller TheatreUniversity Life and co-sponsor Columbia School of the Arts will host a screening of the 2020 documentary Disclosure, followed by a conversation about how film and television refract and mold our perceptions, anxieties, and cultural norms about gender identity and expression.

Disclosure splices clips from over 150 movies and shows featuring transgender and gender non-conforming characters and actors. The documentary provides a unique history of how transgender individuals and communities have been depicted on screen from early 20th century moving images to popular 21st century streaming series, including Orange is the New Black, and how media informs our collective imaginations and realities.

  • CU Safe Zone Training Workshop (In-Person). Learn to support and act in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities at Columbia University. This event is hosted by Multicultural Affairs. Wednesday, November 16, 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Register here.
  • Transgender Day of Remembrance Memorial (In-Person) Transgender Day of Remembrance honors the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of violence. A table with photos and stories of transgender community members will be placed in the lobby of 50 Haven.  Drop in Friday, November 18 - Sunday, November 20.
