Throughout February, in recognition of Black History Month, we will be highlighting events and activities that share the fullness of Black history and life in our country. We hope you enjoy all of this month’s great virtual events! 

University Life Events and Opportunities (All events are ET)

  • Reflect and Set Intention: Commit to Flourishing in the New Year. Join University Life and Alice! Health Promotion for a discussion to help identify and clarify your personal values and put them into action for 2021! Thursday, 2/4, 3-4 PM. Register here.
  • Friendship Video Grams. Feeling particularly grateful for a friend? Submit their name to the University Life Events Council for a personalized email or JibJab video to show your appreciation and have a chance to win a prize. Enter here by Thursday, 2/4.
  • Black History Month Film Screening: Just Mercy. The University Life Events Council invites you to a virtual screening of Just Mercy - the true story of Walter McMillian, who, with the help of legal defense attorney Bryan Stevenson, appeals his conviction. Saturday, 2/6, all day. Register here.
  • Apartment-Friendly Fitness Class. Get moving with a fun, virtual, apartment-friendly fitness class, led by PEREC instructor Elise! Tuesday, 2/9, 9:30-10:30 AM. Register here.
  • Graduate Success Workshop: Assembling Your Mentoring Squad. In this workshop you will learn tools to cultivate relationships to take your work to the next level. Thursday, 2/11, 4-5 PM. Register here.

Other Events and Opportunities

  • Columbia Health Ongoing Support Groups. These support groups, created in response to student concerns, address issues like bereavement, building resilience during the pandemic, coping with trauma and more. Learn more.
  • The Journey from Personal Transformation to Societal Change. Matthieu Ricard, a biologist-turned-Buddhist, French interpreter to the Dalai Lama, will join us to talk about his personal journey, his encounter with Buddhism, the practice of meditation and photography, and the climate crisis.   • Social Enterprise Conference, Capital for Good: Digital Event Series. Panels include ESG Investing: A Viable Investment Strategy for the Long-term? and Creating a More Ethical and Sustainable Agricultural System. Friday, 2/5, 10AM-12:30PM. Register here. 
  • Black Heritage: Narratives on History, Belonging, and Activism. This panel, hosted by the Columbia University School of Social Work (CSSW) Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI), shares authentic narratives of Black and African-American experiences to counter the dominant narratives that perpetuate the stigmatization and oppression of Black & African-American folx.
