COVID-19 Policy and Deadline Updates, and the Benefits of Plant Parenting

February 03, 2022

Dear Students,

As we enter February, I’m heartened by the steady improvement in the COVID-19 rates on our campus and in New York, and I look forward to the loosening of certain restrictions - detailed below - in the coming weeks. Of course, the situation’s ongoing improvement relies on each of us to continue doing our parts to keep ourselves and those around us safe.

Wellness Tip - Adopt a Plant!

It may be cold outside in New York, but you can get your nature fix through house plants! Studies have shown that indoor greenery can be soothing and reduce stress. Worried about the responsibility? Consider a succulent or air plant that requires very little water and attention but can brighten your day!

Updated Booster Documentation Deadline

The deadline to upload your COVID-19 booster documentation has been extended to February 28 for most students. For clinical students, the deadline is February 21. If you are not currently eligible for the booster, please upload your documentation within 31 days of becoming eligible. Questions about your booster? Find FAQs here!

Gateway Testing Deadline Tomorrow, 2/4

The deadline to get your COVID-19 PCR gateway test at a Columbia location is tomorrow, February 4. If you will be returning to campus after the 4th, please schedule your test as close to your arrival as possible. Find locations and information.

Gathering Policy Updates

The University recently announced adjustments to gatherings and visitor policies:

  • As of February 1, 2022, academic, research and administrative gatherings are allowed with no capacity restrictions
  • February 7, 2022: Social gatherings will be allowed with no capacity restrictions
  • February 14, 2022: Eating/drinking onsite (indoors or outdoors) will be allowed at gatherings with minimizing of removal of masks

Attendees who are not CU affiliates are required to follow the visitor policy and must have proof of vaccination and booster, and comply with other safety protocols.
