The Attack at Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, Pakistan

January 20, 2016

We are saddened and dismayed to learn via news reports of an attack on a university in northwest Pakistan today, where dozens of individuals including students and faculty were reported injured, and at least 20 killed. Our hearts go out to the Bacha Khan University community and the victims in this most recent tragedy.

We write to decry this violent loss of life in an institution of learning and knowledge – and to extend support to those for whom these events hit too close to home, including students and other community members who may have personal ties to the area.

We would also like to remind all of resources for support here on the ColumbiaCUMC and Barnard campuses, and pastoral counseling through the University Chaplain’s office. Our Department of Public Safety additionally provides important information on our community security.

If you are moved to share any reflections or ideas to promote cohesion and support others in our community, please email [email protected].
