Success Workshop: A Culturally Competent Approach to Etiquette

What does etiquette actually look like in today’s academic and professional spaces?

This session invites graduate students to think about etiquette beyond “unwritten rules” and instead as something shaped by culture, identity, and power. We’ll talk about how ideas of professionalism, communication, and behavior can differ across contexts—and what that means when we’re navigating classrooms, labs, workplaces, and shared spaces.

Through reflection and discussion, participants will explore more inclusive ways of engaging with others while staying grounded in respect, awareness, and authenticity.

Come ready to reflect, connect, and rethink what it means to show up well in diverse environments.

*Light refreshments will be provided!

Registration is encouraged, but not required.

The Graduate Initiative for Inclusion and Engagement supports graduate and professional students through programs designed to reflect a wide range of lived experiences and perspectives. Designed with the needs of students who may have overcome barriers to higher education in mind, the initiative creates spaces for connection, learning, and growth. All students are welcome.
