As part of the Community Citizenship Initiative, join the Office of Rules Administration to explore why Columbia’s Rules of University Conduct exist, how they affirm the right to free expression and seek to safeguard open debate, and how they help balance the exercise of those rights with the rights of others to teach, study, research, counter-demonstrate, and participate in University life.
Together, we will consider what makes a university community work, review key principles and provisions of the Rules, and look at how they may apply in practice. Through hypothetical scenarios and small-group discussion, we will explore how the Rules may apply to demonstrations and other forms of public expression, along with the rights and responsibilities of members of the University community. The session will conclude with Q&A and an introduction to additional resources from the Office of Rules Administration.
This session is a part of the Community Citizenship Initiative (CCI) and is designed for first semester students who want to develop leadership skills grounded in self-awareness and inclusivity. Students attending this workshop will receive credit for CCI and will have their requirement considered complete.
Registration is required, but walk-ins will be admitted as space allows. CUID holders only.
