Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride in our Community

June 26, 2020

Dear Students,

As New York City heads into a virtual LGBTQ+ Pride weekend, we mark this Pride Month by inviting you to join a global discussion: Pride Without Prejudice: The Moral Arc of LGBTQ+ Law & Justice, cosponsored by Columbia’s Global Centers and University Life, on Tuesday, June 30 at 11 AM Eastern Standard Time. EVP for Global Centers and Global Development Safwan M. Masri and I will moderate a conversation with Columbia faculty members Jack Halberstam, Director of the Institute for Research on Women, Gender and Sexuality and Professor of English and Comparative Literature, and Kendall Thomas, Nash Professor of Law at Columbia Law School.

If you’d like to learn more about the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on workplace discrimination against LGBT people, here’s a quick video from me about the decision and its implications for LGBTQ+ individuals in the U.S. In this time of urgent calls to address systemic inequities in every aspect of society, brought into sharp focus by the Black Lives Matter movement, the Court’s decision and discussions about it shed light on the essential intersections among movements for civil rights and societal change.

As always, I encourage you to visit our website to learn more about how you can get involved in University Life’s work to advance inclusion and belonging at Columbia.

In community,

Professor Suzanne B. Goldberg
Executive Vice President for University Life
Herbert and Doris Wechsler Clinical Professor of Law
