Regarding Friday’s DACA Ruling

July 18, 2021

July 19, 2021 update: President Bollinger has signed onto a letter urging the Senate to immediately provide a pathway to citizenship for current and would-be DACA recipients.

Dear Students,

We write to you today to reiterate Columbia’s ongoing commitment to members of our community who are part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, following a federal judge’s recent ruling that the program is “unlawful.” We want to emphasize that this ruling does not affect current program recipients, but understand that it may cause distress nonetheless.

The University has long welcomed undocumented students and has been supportive of DACA since its inception. In 2017, President Bollinger was among fifty-seven AAU presidents and chancellors to urge Congress to establish a permanent legislative solution for the program. DACA and undocumented students are valued members of the Columbia community, and we continue to stand with them.

If you are seeking support in light of the recent news, we encourage you to visit our webpage of DACA and undocumented student resources, or email us at [email protected].
