In a candid and interactive workshop, Destinée-Charisse Royal of Royal Media Lab will discuss how to have difficult-but-totally-worth-it conversations to improve newsroom culture and coverage. Royal will share four actionable steps to discuss difference, race, gender, identity, workflow hiccups — whatever makes you uncomfortable. The session teaches how to combat tone-deafness in stories, foster inclusion on the job, examine your own biases (we all have them), and debate constructively to get a result. A full range of personality types will benefit and learn how tough talks can nurture self-care and help avoid burnout.
