A Workshop Conversation on Bias: Recognizing the role we all play

November 3, 2021
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
America/New_York
Online Event

Each day, our brains process an enormous amount of information, some of which is categorized consciously while the rest is unconscious. As a result of this processing, whether intentional or not, everyone holds biases. Once we accept that we have biases, and identify what they are and how they manifest, we can begin addressing them with intention. Join us for an interactive session where we will discuss and reflect on our identities, our biases, how bias manifests in society, and how we can all contribute to a community of inclusion and belonging at Columbia.  Registration is required and attendance satisfies the Inclusion and Belonging component of the Community Citizenship Initiative. RSVP here

Session participants will:
-Gain a deeper insight into the nature of bias and prejudice
-Develop an understanding of the factors that cause and perpetuate manifestations of bias and prejudice in its various forms and scales
-Learn the principles of intent vs. impact and do no harm
-Foster awareness of values, attitudes, and actions that foster a culture of inclusion and belonging.
