Unlearning Islamophobia: How to Recognize and Interrupt It

October 22, 2026
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
America/New_York
Lerner Hall, 2920 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 555

Through interactive discussion and reflection, this workshop explores the roots and contemporary realities of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim bias. We will examine the diversity of Muslim experiences and identities, and consider how stereotypes, misconceptions, and media representations can shape perceptions of Islam and Muslims, particularly during periods of global conflict.

To help create a more inclusive environment, the presentation will guide participants in recognizing, understanding, and responding to Islamophobia. Students will leave with a better understanding of Islam and the diverse experiences of Muslim communities, as well as practical tools for recognizing bias, practicing active listening, building allyship, and navigating difficult conversations. All students are welcome.

This session is a part of the Community Citizenship Initiative (CCI) and is designed for first semester students who want to develop leadership skills grounded in self-awareness and inclusivity. Students attending this workshop will receive credit for CCI and will have their requirement considered complete.

Registration is required, but walk-ins will be admitted as space allows. CUID holders only.
