Join University Life’s Legacy of New York series for a guided food tour through the vibrant Lower East Side (LES).
On this immersive walking experience, we’ll explore the neighborhood’s history through curated tastings at cherished local markets and shops, tracing the immigrant stories that have shaped the LES. From the historic Jewish East Side to Little Italy and Chinatown, the LES has long served as a first home for generations of immigrants to New York City.
As we walk, you’ll sample small bites that reflect the enduring influence of Dominican, Puerto Rican, Jewish, Italian, and Chinese communities, and experience firsthand how food continues to play an important role in connecting people to their heritage and culture.
Come hungry and ready to explore one of New York City’s most dynamic neighborhoods through its flavors, stories, and community.
The Legacy of New York series invites students to explore the social movements, histories, and communities that have shaped New York City. Through museum visits, walking tours, and site-based learning experiences, this series seeks to highlight and celebrate the diversity of communities, cultures, and events.
