Join us for this in-person film screening of the competing for best documentary in the 95th Academy Award “Out of Breath”, followed by a discussion with Director Helena Petta and Brazilian experts Natalia Pasternak and Fernanda Cimini on the topics of gender, race, science and religion during the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil.  

Speakers: 

  • Helena Petta, Visiting Scholar at Harvard Univeristy;  
  • Maria Homem, Psychoanalyst and essayist, Visiting Scholar at Harvard

Moderated by: 

  • Fernanda Cimini, Adjunct Professor at Cedeplar/UFMG, Senior Researcher at CEBRI and Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. 

“Out of Breath” follows public health workers in marginalized areas of Brazil as they fight to save lives during the pandemic. With a sensitive gaze, the documentary spotlights women facing the greatest challenges of their careers. “Out of Breath” exposes the intersections of race, religion, and class through character-driven cinema vérité.
