Enrico Gatti leads a concert re-creating the musical splendor of the Arcadian Academy of Rome, whose leading composers were Bernardo Pasquini, Arcangelo Corelli, and Alessandro Scarlatti. The program features the North American premiere of Pasquini’s festive cantata Applauso Musicale with concerto grosso orchestra and soloists Sarah ChalfyLaura Heimes, and Clara Rottsolk, sopranos; Andrew Fuchs, tenor; and Steven Hrycelak, bass, with additional music by Corelli and A. Scarlatti. Instrumental soloists will be Enrico Gatti and Cynthia Freivogel, violins, and Loretta O’Sullivan, cello.

ARTEK is a non-profit classical music ensemble presenting concerts of historically-informed early music led by Gwendolyn Toth.

Enrico Gatti, born in Perugia, was the first Italian violinist to devote himself entirely to the baroque violin, studying with Chiara Banchini and Sigiswald Kuijken. He has concertized all around the world with La Petite Bande, Ensemble 415, Concerto Palatino, Hespèrion XX, as leader of Les Arts Florissants, Les Talens Lyriques, Taverner Consort and Players, The King’s Consort, Ricercar Consort, Bach Collegium Japan, Concerto Köln, ARTEK (New York), De Nederlandse Bachvereniging, and “Les Muffatti” (Bruxelles), as well as with conductors such as Gustav Leonhardt and Ton Koopman. He founded Ensemble Aurora in 1986, and the group went on to win first prize in the Antonio Vivaldi International Competition in 1993 and 1998, the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and several times the Diapason d’or. Mr. Gatti is professor of baroque violin at the Royal Conservatoire of Den Haag and at the Conservatory of Bologna. He currently lives in Santarcangelo di Romagna.
