This recital features two world premieres and four works composed for Emanuele Arciuli, the preeminent European specialist in American music for piano. He has long performed works by Black composers, and has studied and worked for many years with Indigenous Americans. His 2017 two-CD recording, Walk in Beauty, features fourteen works—many of them dedicated to and premiered by him—by Native American and Black composers exploring a wide range of approaches and styles, including Connor Chee’s fantasy on a Navajo theme, Brent Michael Davids’s sultry jazz, and the original version for piano of the Harlem Suite by Arthur Cunningham.
