Campus Conversations: Navigating Difficult Conversations

March 4, 2024
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
America/New_York
Kent Hall, 1140 Amsterdam Ave., New York, NY 10027 201

Campus Conversations is a dialogue-based initiative created to promote understanding across differences. It offers undergraduate and graduate students a way to learn critical listening skills, manage difficult conversations, and talk about identity. Join a Campus Conversation and you will make a friend, have a real conversation, and build community at Columbia.

In this workshop, Navigating Difficult Conversations, we ask what makes conversations difficult? And, how can we make them productive? Participants will walk through a step-by-step process to engage in tough conversations with less stress and more success. Participants gain an understanding of the structure of difficult conversations and skills to navigate them better. Workshop length - 90 minutes.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Understanding the three levels of conversation
  • Assessment of active listening skills
  • How to reframe conversations into solution-driven dialogue

Workshop led by Ixchel Rosal, Senior Associate Vice President for Student Life.
