Dear Students,
Do you have a short film you’d like to share with the Columbia community? The University Life Events Council wants to showcase 2-10 minute films created by Columbia students! Selected films will be shared at the 2023 CU Film Showcase in Lerner Cinema. Submit by Sunday, March 19.

- Who Reads in America? An Introduction to Nonfiction Books (Virtual). Kristen McLean, a leader at BookScan, and Kevin O’Connor, founding director of The Center for Nonfiction, will share their insights on the publishing industry and how books can meet the emotional needs of readers across demographics. - Yoga Class (In-Person). Take a break and relax with yoga in Earl Hall, hosted by Religious Life. Please bring your own mat and arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign in and set up. - The Academic Publishing Process (Virtual). University Life, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and The Center for Nonfiction welcome you to a workshop exploring the landscape of university presses. - Connecting Meaningfully with the LGBTQIA Community (In-Person). Columbia University’s Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity (COTAD) Chapter is hosting an LGBTQIA skill-building workshop led by Dr. Gloria Pope, EdD, the Director of Educational Enrichment at Destination Tomorrow. Dr. Pope will teach participants how to better connect with the LGBTQIA community and create a safe and affirming environment. Thursday, March 23, 4:30 - 6:00 PM. Register here.
- Understanding Limitations of Voice Technology. A team of student researchers in the Department of Computer Science is interested in interviewing people who have experienced difficulties related to their accents, culture-specific terms, or other experiences when using smart voice technology devices. The interview will last for about an hour and will be conducted on Zoom. Participants may receive $20, or Columbia affiliates may request a similar value in Columbia swag. In this event, Linda Villarosa will consider racism within the U.S. healthcare system and society, its detrimental health effects on Black people, and what can be done to mitigate this. Fellowship and Commencement Opportunities
- Kraft Global Fellows Program. The Office of the University Chaplain is accepting applications for the May 2023 Kraft Global Fellowship Program to Jordan. Fellows will work on a group research project, meet with community leaders, and visit religious and historical sites. Apply by Wednesday, March 15.
- George Van Amson Fellowship. This fellowship, funded by Community Impact, provides students with a $3,000 stipend and summer housing to support their unpaid nonprofit internship or service summer learning opportunity. Open to continuing undergraduates from all Columbia schools. Learn more and apply by Sunday, March 26.
- Call for Commencement Performers. The Commencement Office is seeking students to perform and/or sign the following songs at University Commencement on Wednesday, May 17, 2023: “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” “Stand, Columbia!” and “New York State of Mind.” Audition solo or with a group of friends. Submit your audition video by Friday, March 24.
- Social Impact Fellowship. Columbia World Projects invites rising third and fourth year undergraduate students to apply for the Social Impact Fellowship, a fully funded, five-week summer program, and an academic-year engagement with thought leaders and innovators. Apply by Monday, March 27.
