University Life Events (All events in ET)
- Study Days (In-Person). Join Religious Life in Earl Hall for a quiet study space with tea and snacks provided. Now - Thursday, May 12, time and locations vary. Learn more here.
- Yoga Class (In-Person). Religious Life offers free yoga classes in Earl Hall every Tuesday evening this semester. No pre-registration is required. Please bring your own mat and arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign in and set up. Tuesdays, 7:00-8:00 PM. Learn more.
- University Commencement. Celebrate Columbia’s most recent graduates! Join online via the Commencement website or consider volunteering if you want to take part in the University’s first in-person Commencement in three years. Class of 2022: May 18, 10:30 AM. - Student Conduct Navigators - Applications Now Open. Are you interested in supporting fellow students going through the University's student conduct process? If so, consider becoming a Student Conduct Navigator. Learn more and apply here.
Racial Justice Mini-Grant Program Events
- For Pecola: On Colorism, Bridging Personal Experiences and Systemic Oppression (Virtual). Colorism (discrimination against dark-skinned people within the same race) is not considered enough in mainstream conversations about systemic racism. This student-led conference invites the public to engage with compelling research that demonstrates how colorism creates disparities in mass incarceration, policing, and public health. University-wide Events and Opportunities
- Protecting the Press: International Standards & Judicial Trends in Cases of Violence Against Journalists (Virtual). Columbia Global Freedom of Expression presents this capstone event, which will discuss their findings on research related to violence against journalists. Panelists will comment on the report and share their own experiences as journalists. Wednesday, May 11, 10:00-11:00 AM. Register here.
- Perfectly Imperfect Pathways to Success: a Mentoring Mosaic (Virtual). CUIMC invites you to the next installment of their Women in Science Lecture Series, which highlights the groundbreaking science and personal stories of women scientists across Columbia’s health science schools. - Situational Awareness Training (Virtual). Join Public Safety for this situational awareness training, where you will learn techniques to protect your personal safety. Thursday, May 12, 10:00-11:00 AM. Register here.
- 2022 Human Rights Advocates Program Applications. The Program is designed for human rights activists working with NGOs on a variety of issues. Apply by Thursday, May 12.
- Summer 2022 Virtual Internship Application. Columbia Global Centers invite applications for virtual internships around the world. Despite travel restrictions, you can still find a rewarding opportunity as a global intern during the Summer 2022 term. Apply here by Sunday, May 22.
Take Part in a Conversation About Columbia's History
- Missed Columbia Libraries' presentation about Columbia Residence Halls and Histories of Racism and Enslavement? A recorded presentation of the research findings is available from the Columbia and Slavery Project. You are invited to share your ideas and thoughts about proposals to acknowledge this history, and to express your own interest in participating in research, art, or outreach activities. Survey responses requested by May 24, 2022.
