Former NBA professional basketball player, Harvard Law graduate, and SPS Senior Lecturer, Len Elmore joins Emmy-Award-winning writer Randy Cohen in conversation on his public radio podcast Person Place Thing. Cohen will try to uncover how Elmore used his significant basketball skills in the court of law.
Person Place Thing is an interview show based on the idea that people are especially engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but something they care about. Guests talk about one person, one place, and one thing with particular meaning to them.
Cohen's conversation with Elmore will be recorded with a live audience and released on the podcast at a later date. Free and open to the public.

About the speakers
Len Elmore, Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Sports Management, is a former collegiate basketball All American at The University of Maryland at College Park, a 10-year professional basketball player with the American Basketball Association and National Basketball Association, an attorney, and a 31-year sports television announcer, having worked with ESPN, CBS Sports and Fox Sports/FS1. Upon conclusion of his professional basketball career in 1984, Elmore received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1987 as the first NBA player to graduate from that institution.
Len has served as a prosecutor in Kings County (Brooklyn), New York, as Of Counsel and Senior Counsel with several noted law firms, the principal in a sports management company and a private sector business leader.
In August 2020, Len was appointed to the Board of Advisors for The Shirley Povich Center at The University of Maryland College Park Merrill School of Journalism. He also remains involved with several charitable organizations.
Len was selected to serve as the Faculty Speaker for the SPS Graduation, morning ceremony, for the Class of 2022 on May 13, 2022.
Randy Cohen’s first professional work was writing humor pieces, essays, and stories for newspapers and magazines (The New Yorker, Harpers, the Atlantic, Young Love Comics). His first television work was writing for "Late Night With David Letterman" for which he won three Emmy awards. His fourth Emmy was for his work on Michael Moore’s "TV Nation." He received a fifth Emmy as a result of a clerical error, and he kept it. For twelve years he wrote "The Ethicist," a weekly column for the New York Times Magazine. In 2010, his first play, “The Punishing Blow,” ran at New York’s Clurman Theater. He is currently the creator and host of Person Place Thing, a public radio program.
