Resources and Support Following the Shooting in Chesapeake, Virginia
November 23, 2022
Dear Students from Virginia,
With a heavy heart, I’m reaching out just days following the tragedy at the University of Virginia - Charlottesville with yet another horrific act of violence that has impacted the Virginia community. My sympathy goes out to the victims of the shooting at the Walmart in Chesapeake and their families and friends. The impact of these events expands further than those directly harmed, potentially causing significant distress at a time when many of us are celebrating with family and friends for the holidays.
I continue to encourage you to tap into your community for support. Please remember that University resources are also available to you, should you need them.
Support from your school: Contact the Dean of Students office for your school. Many of the University’s counseling and wellness resources are available to you as well.
All of us at University Life are continually thinking of you, your families, and your friends. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you. I’m always available at [email protected].
Sincerely, Joseph Defraine Greenwell, Ed.D.
