Sustainability Talk: a World of 10 Billion

Friday, April 12, 2019
2:30pm to 3:30pm

Join the Earth Institute for a lecture by Professor Sir Charles Godfray, Director of the Martin School, Oxford University, and Professor of Population Biology.

In this talk, Professor Godfray will explore some of the challenges of feeding a growing and richer world population, as well as look at some of possible solutions, using a modelling approach that links an economic model of the food system with environment and health inputs and outputs. He will investigate issues such as the effect of climate change on reductions in diet-associated deaths; how dietary change policies can be designed to obtain multiple health, environment and economic outputs, and the combinations of advances and policies that can reduce the environmental impact of agriculture. Professor Godfray will also discuss some of the greatest near-term threats to global food system resilience.

Free and open to the public. The lecture will be followed by mingling and light snacks.
